The 1930s of 20th century. According propaganda the Soviet Union seems to be the fulfillment of the dreams of a young German communist, Antonia Berger. So she goes there, but she is accused of spying and sent to a gulag in Vorkuta. Released in 1952, she returned to the GDR, the German satellite state of the USSR with her daughter Lydia, obliged to remain absolutely silent about the years in the camp. Stalin's death brings a hope for a fresh start and Antonia speaks out about her terrible experiences. Her lover, a committed Communist, meticulously informs about it the authorities. Antonia has to make a choice – between truth or the present.

Bernd Böhlich (1957) He is a German screenwriter and director. After school he worked as an assistant director for Deutscher Fernsehfunk in Berlin. He studied directing at Filmhochschule Potsdam-Babelsberg and his graduation film Fronturlaub (1981/82) was screened at international film festivals. Böhlich has made several TV movies, covering different genres. With the social realistic comedy Du bist nicht allein (2007) Böhlich made his debut on the big screen. The melancholic romance The Moon and Other Lovers (2008) marked Böhlich's second cinema release. Next was a comedy about a group of senior citizens who stage a spectacular escape from their resident home, Fly Away! (2012). His newest film, drama Sealed Lips (2018) was premiered at Goa IFF.
