Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia challenged the mafia. The first time she pointed the lens at a brutally murdered victim in the 1970s and since then, armed with a camera, she has been documenting the crimes of Cosa Nostra. Her courage, consistency, stubbornness and gaze bear fruit not only in terms of her great but painful pictures. Photographs of the barbaric actions of the gangsters contributed to the end of the rule of blood.
